Podcasts are set to become the latest audience development tool for the arts with a new initiative from Hatstand Opera Company (pictured). The company has launched a series of regular monthly opera bulletins in audio files which listeners can download and listen to on mp3 players. Podcasting has boomed in recent months with regular downloads available on subjects ranging from wine tasting to sexual technique.

Hatstand?s bulletins are believed to be the world?s first opera podcasts. Kirsty Young, director of Hatstand Opera, said: ?We are delighted to present a podcast that reflects our philosophy of ?go-anywhere? opera... We hope its informal style and interviews will encourage more people to try out opera, wherever they come across it.?
