Artists, storytellers, actors and musicians took over the London Eye on midsummer?s day to promote fair trade and heighten awareness of trade issues in Africa in advance of the G8 summit. Nearly 2,000 visitors boarded one of the 32 pods on the big wheel to witness performances by artists including Damon Albarn, Turin Brakes, Jonzi D and Jo Brand, as well as productions by the National Theatre and the Royal Court.

The event, FLIGHT 5065: BA LONDON EYE, was sponsored by Cafédirect. Sylvie Barr, Cafédirect?s Head of Marketing, explained, ?With the world?s eyes focused on Africa we wanted to send a positive message to people in the UK ? that fairer trade rules do work.?
