Nearly one third of all secondary schools have now been awarded an Artsmark, the Arts Council England benchmark that acknowledges commitment to the arts and provision of high quality arts education in all types of school. The recently announced fifth round of Artsmark awards saw 1,167 schools receive accreditation, bringing the total to more than 3,000.
Andrew Adonis, Under Secretary of State for Schools, said, ?I believe the arts make up a vital part of a varied and diverse education and it?s important that children are given the opportunity to demonstrate and develop their skills. Artsmark encourages schools to make an extra effort in this area.? The closing date for the sixth round of Artsmark is 18 November.
