The Arts Council of Wales (ACW) has announced the appointment of Frances Medley as its new Deputy Chief Executive. She first joined ACW as Planning Director, but since September 2000 has been the Acting Chief Executive, and will now work alongside recently appointed Chief Executive Peter Tyndall to implement the restructuring process.

Following the demise of Midlands Arts Marketing (ArtsProfessional issue 8, p1), MAM?s former Research Manager Jef Gould and Development Managers Jennie Jordan and Frances Newbury have set up their own research and marketing consultancy.


Richard Heason (pictured) is to assume the position of Artistic Director/Chief Executive of Blackheath Concert Halls when Karl Chapman leaves to take up a new position as General Manager of the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. Richard has been Deputy Director of the Halls since May 2000.

The Hall for Cornwall in Truro, Cornwall, has made three new appointments. John Brolly joins as the Education Officer, Ginny Kay is the Commercial Officer and Simon Harvey is the new Participatory Arts Officer.


Musician and Community Worker Michael Freeman (pictured) has joined The Maltings Theatre and Arts Centre in the new role of Community Music Co-ordinator. The post has been made possible by a grant from The Northern Rock Foundation.

Business in the Arts: North West has appointed Paula Keaveney as Deputy Manager. A journalist, author and broadcaster, she joins from the charity Autism Initiatives, where she was Marketing Manager.

Karen Hickling, temporary Arts Project Manager at Prescap since May, is to take on her role permanently, and Penny Darby is replacing Jack Hale as Administrator.

Newcastle Gateshead Initiative has announced the appointment of Paul Collard to join its team spearheading the Newcastle Gateshead bid for European Capital of Culture 2008. He has returned to the North East from the USA to develop programme ideas, and joins a team of six executives who are managing the bid (see page 6).

Two new members of staff have been appointed at The Castle in Wellingborough. David Bown is the new Artistic Director and Michelle McBride has become the new Education and Outreach Animateur.

Kate More is the new Marketing Officer at the John Hansard Gallery, replacing Sioban Ketelaar who has moved to work in the Press Office at Tate.
