Eight leading art galleries based in the West Midlands are to cease promoting themselves in isolation, to join forces with each other in an attempt to attract new audiences and challenge the misconception that art galleries are in competition with each other.
Known as the M6 Galleries, the collaboration involves the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Ikon Galley, Midlands Art Centre, Mead Gallery, Potteries Museum and Arts Gallery, The New Art Gallery Walsall and Wolverhampton Art Gallery. The group has already secured European funding for audience development activity, including research into what gallery-goers want.
