Following a radical programme of internal reform, the Maltings Theatre and Arts Centre in Berwick-upon-Tweed is celebrating a new financial support package from Barclays worth over £22,000.
The money will contribute towards its forthcoming programme and the cost of employing a community theatre worker. The Maltings, which in September 2000 was carrying a net debt of £108,000, has initiated a series of financial controls which have led to a turn-around of the venue?s fortunes. With its net debt having been reduced to £18,000 by March 2001, the venue is now on track to break even, and hopes to generate surpluses which can be reinvested in its community outreach programme.
