London Arts has launched a Cultural Diversity Action Plan which challenges arts institutions in the capital to develop new audiences and artistic programmes that reflect London?s cultural diversity.
It is estimated that one in three Londoners is from Black and minority ethnic groups, and that within 10 years, 40% of young Londoners under 25 will be Black, Asian or mixed race; yet research shows that people from these ethnic groups are twice as likely to feel out of place in a theatre or arts gallery as other groups. London Arts predicts that the arts have to change or they will find their audiences dwindling away.Their argument for taking action is based on equity, but is also based on a sound business case. The Cultural Diversity Action Plan is on the London Arts website w: http://www.arts.org.uk/londonarts, and comments can be sent to London Arts by email e: consult@lonab.co.uk
