Last month saw the opening of two arts facilities in Scotland, both part-funded by the Scottish Arts Council Lottery fund.
The new Birnam Institute in Perthshire will provide a boost for arts activities in the surrounding communities; and the Byre Theatre in St Andrews, which received a Lottery grant of over £4m, has opened with its first production, ?Into the Woods?, in the presence of First Minister and local resident Henry McLeish MSP. Over the past five years, Scottish Arts Council has distributed a total of £151m in National Lottery funds to both capital and activity-based projects in Scotland. Work on major building projects worth over £25m is due to be completed between June and December this year.
