Venu Dhupa (pictured), Executive Director of Nottingham Playhouse, has won the Arts and Culture Category of the Asian Women of Achievement Awards 2001. Formerly a producer at the Royal National Theatre before taking up her role in Nottingham, she is shortly to be leaving the Theatre to become one of three senior directors at, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts.

The Director of The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS), Richard Chester, has been elected to the post of President of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO).

The Academy of Ancient Music has announced that Christopher Purvis has taken on the role of Chairman, and is joined by Sir Konrad Schiemann and Dr Christopher Tadgell as trustees on the board. Justin Lee has been appointed to the new position of Deputy General Manager.

Pallant House Gallery has appointed Roger Reed, former Chairman of South East Arts, as an independent trustee, to represent the Friends of Pallant House in the Gallery Trust.

The Theatrical Management Association has announced that Maggie Saxon is to take over from Barbara Matthews as the new President of the Association. Maggie worked in English repertory theatre, initially as Finance Manager at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, before becoming General Manager at the New Victoria Theatre, Stoke, and currently is Managing Director of West Yorkshire Playhouse.

Thomas Wildish is to replace Tim Wood as Nottingham Playhouse?s Campaigns Officer. Tim, who has been at the Playhouse for five years, has been appointed as Press and Marketing Manager of The Place, London?s newly refurbished contemporary dance venue.

John Stephens OBE has taken over from Sarah Walker CBE as President of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.

Caroline Griffin has joined the Theatre Royal Stratford East as Head of Sales and Marketing. She was formerly Marketing Manager for The Junction in Cambridge.

Aberdeen City Council is promoting dance across the city with the appointment of Anita Clark by citymoves dancespace to spearhead the development of its services.

The Richard Attenborough Centre at the University of Leicester has appointed Steven Pegg to the newly created post of Development Officer. He joined the Centre in November 2000 as Performing Arts Co-ordinator, and will now pursue the two roles concurrently.
