Nominations are being invited for the 2001 Dragon awards, the Lord Mayor of London?s City of London?s Award Scheme which recognises London businesses which have played a part in regenerating local communities across London.
The award categories cover areas in which many arts organisations are active. These include the small business award, which recognises businesses with fewer than 100 employees who have implemented projects in their local communities, and the local regeneration award, recognising organisations that have developed an on-going programme to support the social and economic regeneration of their local area, working to improve the opportunities for local residents. The 2000 Dragon award for small business was won by Advanced Systems and Support, for their community programme entitled ByteAid, through which computers are recycled and refurbished for organisations that would otherwise be unable to find the capital costs for such equipment. It recruits members of its local community to be trainees within the recycling process, equipping them with IT skills and qualifications.
