Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Salary: £25,000 pa

As part of our Great Places Programme we are seeking an exceptional Marketing and Communications Coordinator to deliver marketing and PR activity for Sunderland Culture, working as part of the marketing team.

Background

Sunderland Culture formed in 2016, bringing together University of Sunderland, Sunderland City Council and Music, Arts and Culture (MAC) Trust, to take forward an ambitious cultural vision for the city.

Sunderland Culture is firmly place-focussed in its creative and cultural ambition. We work across the city to ensure the power of great art, culture and creativity is harnessed for the benefit of Sunderland, its residents and visitors and work created here is showcased internationally. Our mission is to improve life for everyone in Sunderland through culture.

We manage the city’s major cultural venues including National Glass Centre, Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Arts Centre Washington and the Fire Station. We also provide strong governance for the delivery of major city-wide projects such as the UK City of Culture 2021 Bid. In July 2017, Sunderland Culture was awarded National Portfolio Organisation status by Arts Council England for the period 2018-2022.

In 2017 Sunderland Culture we were successful in our bid to be one of 16 pilot areas for the Great Place scheme; jointly funded over three years by Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund to put arts, culture and heritage at the heart of communities.

We believe that with the track record of our five venues alongside our city-wide programme and our new business model, we are in a unique position to make significant and lasting change in Sunderland.

The Post

We are now seeking a marketing and communications coordinator to work with our committed team to drive forward the development and delivery of our audience development, marketing and communications plans with specific reference to our Great Places programme activity.

The role will work across a number of areas including planning and delivering marketing and PR campaigns that raise the profile of arts and culture the city and drive audience for activities that we are delivering through the programme.

The successful applicant will need to be a team player and excellent communicator with a proven record of delivering marketing and press activity, ideally within the cultural sector.

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will join a passionate and dynamic team who are committed to bringing the best of arts and heritage to the people of Sunderland, the north east and beyond.
