MeWe360 is a black-led not for profit that champions Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic entrepreneurs in the Arts and Creative Industries. We support inspiring entrepreneurial talent from across the creative industries and all parts of the UK. OVERVIEW

This is an exciting time for MeWe360 and we’re looking for a senior manager / leader with a broad range of experience that you will utilise to help us build capacity as we emerge from the coronavirus pandemic. Attitude is as important as aptitude. MeWe is a small organisation and the post-holder must be able to work on multiple activities at any time with a focus on the highest levels of quality in management, strategy and project activities, through to essential lower level tasks.

This key role will provide vital operational and strategic support to the Deputy CEO. As the Operations & Strategic Projects Manager you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of operational activities, ensuring that the organisation runs efficiently, as well as supporting the development of the short and long term strategy for MeWe360. Once the strategy is defined, you will be instrumental in delivering key strategic projects.

Knowledge and/ or experience of the arts or creative industries is desirable, however, we recognise and value the many skilled professionals available from other sectors due to the coronavirus pandemic. DURATION: This role is offered on a 12 month fixed term contract, with the possibility of extension

HOURS: 40 hours per week worked between office hours, with occasional early mornings, late evenings and weekends, as required by client demands

LOCATION: Currently working from home but this may change to working from a central London office and require attendance at events (depending on the situation with COVID-19)

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

These are the main areas for which you will be accountable, however, the core objectives will be agreed upon starting between you and the Deputy CEO.

1.    Strategy

  • Help to identify, scope and plan opportunities for new or improved services
  • Develop/ improve organisational resilience in response to the evolving coronavirus pandemic  
  • Assist in developing and lead the implementation of the marketing and sales strategy for membership/ project activity
  • Draft strategic documents, presentations and grant funding applications
  • Deliver presentations or pitches e.g. at speaking or network events, meetings, etc.
  • Maximise income generation opportunities to ensure financial sustainability of the organisation

2.    Project delivery

  • Plan and implement projects ensuring delivery to time, cost and scope
  • Manage project financials and governance reporting
  • Manage risks, issues and dependencies
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with all project stakeholders
  • Ensure project communications are targeted and at the level and frequency required
  • The type of projects you will lead will be guided by your particular strengths and areas of expertise. Examples of potential projects are:
    • Defining and launching a new membership package
    • Piloting international participation in our programming
    • Piloting activity with a new type of membership cohort
    • Expanding our events programme, including digital delivery
    • Identifying new partnerships opportunities
  • Develop and implement the ‘return to office’ roadmap including the search, acquisition and move to new premises

3.    Operations

(i)    Financial management

  • Assist in monitoring annual budgets, develop financial strategies which comply with charity and company legislation
  • Ensure any financial controls and procedures are kept up to date, are well understood and are complied with

(ii)    HR/ management of staff and volunteers

  • Assist the Deputy Chief Exec in leading the HR and people management functions of the organisation
  • Administer HR records, e.g. new starter, annual leave, sickness, employment agreements, etc.
  • Ensure that the recruitment and deployment of staff and volunteers is carried out effectively and efficiently in accordance with MeWe’s personnel practices and best practice
  • Ensure the effective induction, management and supervision of staff, volunteers and freelancers, ensuring that they have clear outcome focussed targets and work plans

(iii)    Legal

  • Oversee and manage all legal and regulatory reporting required including; Companies House, HMRC, funders, etc.
  • Oversee and manage all contracting and legal agreements e.g. leases, hire agreements, service contracts to ensure they are complied with and offer best value  

(iv)    Data management

  • To ensure we have effective processes for collecting measurement data and evaluation

(v)    Facilities & office management

  • Ensuring the smooth running of the office and any infrastructure
  • Overseeing facilities to ensure compliance with regulatory and health and safety standards
  • Assess and mitigate any risks relating to all activities carried out by MeWe, in accordance with legal obligations and good practice

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of strategic planning
  • Experience of developing and/ or improving services
  • Demonstrable experience of scoping, planning and delivering projects
  • Substantial experience of relationship building and collaborative partnership
  • Demonstrable track record of managing and monitoring performance to meet organisational objectives and delivery of quality services
  • Demonstrable experience of budget management, including creating/ monitoring business plans
  • Stakeholder management – especially at senior management/ executive level
  • Experience line managing people or a team

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to lead and manage a team successfully with a focus on development and delegation
  • Ability to plan and manage projects
  • Financial and commercial awareness and a strong analytical mind
  • Experience of managing procurement processes in a cost-effective way
  • Ability to identify opportunities for policy change and the potential impact on the organisation’s beneficiaries
  • Ability to be an excellent ambassador for the organisation building strong relationships with existing and new contacts
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate and present ideas clearly, coherently and emotively
  • Ability to be self-servicing including proficient use of Microsoft IT packages
  • Desirable, but not essential:
    • Experience in one or more of the following areas: marketing & sales, fundraising, business/ management consultancy
    • Knowledge of the legal framework within which a not-for profit organisation operates
    • Knowledge and/ or experience of the arts or creative industries
    • Basic experience of customer relationship databases and other systems (e.g. Xero, People HR or equivalent)
