The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew was founded in 1759 and over the past 260 years has been at the centre of global discovery, collection, identification, naming and ordering of all things plant and fungi related. Today it’s a global resource for plant and fungal knowledge and the world’s leading botanic garden. Situated across two sites, at Kew Gardens near Richmond in London and at Wakehurst in Sussex, RBG Kew displays and celebrates the diversity of plant life from around the world within spectacular landscapes. RBG Kew has 1000 employees and 500 volunteers. Kew Gardens is a major visitor attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

RBG Kew’s commercial activities, focused on its retail offer, brand licensing, commercial events, venue hire, publishing and adult education courses, are an increasingly important element in Kew’s operations and a major contributor to vital self-generated revenue. Kew is now seeking outstanding candidates for the role of Head of Commercial Activities to lead the strategic direction of these areas and the teams that deliver them. Candidates should bring a proven track record in the successful management and delivery of commercial activities ideally gleaned in a visitor focused attraction. They should be strategic and entrepreneurial with an ability to lead and motivate a large and diverse team. The post-holder will be naturally collaborative, a team player and able bring strong business acumen. This is a key leadership and influencing role across Kew and candidates should have the presence and experience to play a key role as part of the Kew Leadership Forum.
