Visitor Engagement Director
Location: Based across the Museums sites with some travel required
Founded in 1967 the Ironbridge Gorge Museum has grown into one of the largest independent museums in the world. Set within a 6 square mile UNESCO World Heritage Site and centred on the world’s first cast iron bridge are 10 award winning museums and 36 Scheduled Ancient Monuments and listed buildings that tell the story of this remarkable part of Britain. Attracting 450,000 visitors every year the museum is a major contributor to tourism in Shropshire and the West Midlands and thus a driver to the local economy.
Ironbridge are now seeking an outstanding candidate for the role of Visitor Engagement Director. Reporting directly to the recently appointed Chief Executive, Nick Ralls, this role has responsibility for establishing and implementing the museum’s engagement strategy that ensures visitors enjoy a memorable, stimulating and authentic experience which reflects the quality and significance of the museum. Developing income and earning potential to ensure the commercial success of the group will also be integral.
Candidates must bring a proven track record of operational and commercial management in a visitor-focussed organisation – ideally within the heritage sector or a multi-site operation. Experience in animating visitor experiences through first and third person interpretation will also be beneficial. A passion for heritage and communicating the history of Ironbridge, a nationally significant location, will be essential for the successful candidate.
