Chief Operating Officer
Great Dixter Charitable Trust is seeking to appoint a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to take responsibility for the strategic and operational management of the organisation that will ensure its longer-term sustainability.
Great Dixter is a historic house and garden in East Sussex, internationally known through the gardening and writing of the late Christopher Lloyd and now a centre for horticultural excellence and education under the leadership of Fergus Garrett. Run by the Trust since the death of Christopher Lloyd in 2006, today Great Dixter welcomes up to 50,000 visitors a year, with its magical and inspiring offer not just of the house and garden but also of courses, symposia, study days, children’s programmes and other events.
The new COO will be required to provide the coordinated leadership, with Fergus Garrett, that will continue to develop Great Dixter without compromising its core values. They will work in partnership with the CEO in strategic planning and organisational development. They will carry out the everyday running of the organisation, managing and developing staff and will assess and develop new initiatives maintaining the fine balance between its history, its future contribution to horticultural innovation and its commercial needs.
In this new role, the Trust seeks an exceptional person, able to work alongside Fergus and to command his trust, sensitive to the history of Great Dixter, to Christopher Lloyd’s legacy but also able to support the innovative developments which the organisation wants to embrace. They will have good commercial and business operational skills, be well-versed in the visitor attraction scene with good analytic and excellent management skills and will also appreciate the unique role of Great Dixter with its strong commitment to innovation, best practice and social engagement.
If you think you have the skills and experience which this role demands and identify with the values which Great Dixter represents, please be in touch, for more information and an application pack, with Joanna Kill at Joanna.email@example.com or on +44 (0)20 3004 4701.
