The JMK Trust

The JMK Trust was founded in memory of a theatre director of thrilling promise, James Menzies-Kitchin, who died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 28. Since 1997 the Trust has discovered and nurtured a new generation of visionary young directors whose work and influence can be seen throughout the British theatre industry.

About the role of General Manager

We want to find a new General Manager who has passion for our mission statement, and will drive the delivery of our programme of work, including the prestigious JMK Award and our national programme of artist development activity for early career theatre makers and directors. Working in close collaboration with our board, you will need strategic thinking, independence and adaptability, logistical planning and organisational management skills.

This role is pivotal to the Trust's work and operations. The GM plays an integral role in planning, with the Board of Trustees, the Trust's strategic direction and is responsible for raising funds and overseeing its delivery and day-to-day activity – specifically its annual Award, in partnership with the Orange Tree Theatre, London, and the National Programme, in partnership with 14 producing theatres across the UK.

The GM reports to the Trust's Chair and Trustees, apprising them of all operations at regular board meetings. The GM also line-manages a team of Director Practitioners which deliver National Programme activity across the country. The General Manager is also responsible for the Trust's bursary programme which offers paid opportunities to theatre artists to work as assistant directors at partner theatres nationwide.

The JMK Trust is committed to developing the next generation of outstanding theatre directors, irrespective of their background.

Hours: 5 days pw – flexible.
Salary: £29,500 - £35,000 dependent on experience. Please note - this is an employee role not freelance.
