What is a podcast?

Sound and video files can be compressed into formats (such as MP3 and MP4) which make them easier to transmit and download over the internet. ArtsProfessional provides MP3 files of APod on our website for you to listen to, using our APod player, alternatively you can receive these directly by subscribing to our podcast.

The term podcasting refers to the way sound or video files can be automatically sent to your computer. To subscibe to our podcast you need an internet connection and some podcast software. The podcast software (such as iTunes, Juice or Doppler) will search the web to find the latest episode of your chosen podcast and automatically deliver it to your computer. You can then listen to the podcast on your computer, or download the file to your MP3 player. Although the term podcast stems from Apple's iPod MP3 player, a podcast can be played on any MP3 player.

  • Once iTunes is installed on your computer, you can either follow this link to subscribe to APod,
  • or you can click on the 'iTunes Store' link in iTunes (in the left-hand menu bar), and then search for 'APod' in the search bar (in the top right corner).
  • Both the options above will lead you to the APod podcast. Click on the 'Subscribe' button to subscribe to the podcast.
  • After clicking the 'Subscribe' button, the iTunes software will open and automatically subscribe you to the podcast feed (This sometimes happens in the background and you may not see it occur).
  • Click the podcast link in iTunes to confirm you were successfully subscribed, then look for the APod podcast here. You will also be able to download previous APod podcasts here.

Subscribing to Juice, Doppler or other podcast software

Most other podcast software (such as Juice and Doppler) requires you to add the 'feed' of a podcast to your software in order to subscribe. Our feed is...

(this is the web address where the APod feed is stored).

Copy this feed address and paste it into your podcast software (you will usually be prompted to do this after choosing to 'Add a subscription' or 'Add a podcast', however this process will depend on your software).
