A new survey examining revenue models in the contemporary performance sector aims to provide information to help organisations make more from philanthropy and commercial enterprise.

A new research project is preparing to explore the revenue generation models being adopted by contemporary performance artists and  organisations, both in the UK and internationally. Although business models in the performing arts are starting to include philanthropy and higher levels of earned income or commercial revenues, this path is proving challenging for many. The survey aims to generate findings that will give organisations benchmarks for progress and stimulate new thinking as to how their philanthropic and commercial revenue models could be further developed. The project also hopes to plot the financial evolution of business models within the sector and reveal the extent to which this particular arts community feels able to engage with private sector fundraising and wider revenue generation. The project has been commissioned by Forced Entertainment, Gob Squad and Quarantine, and the survey is being developed by the agency Arts Quarter with support from Arts Council England’s Catalyst Arts: Building Fundraising Capacity Programme. The results will be published in March 2014. See the Arts Quarter website to participate in the survey.
