An experimental digital arts media service and commissioning programme is being planned by the BBC in partnership with Arts Council England. From May 2012 through to October, ‘The Space’ will showcase work led and created by the arts and cultural sector, drawing on the summer of arts of the Olympic year. ACE is investing £2.5m of its strategic digital innovation funds in commissioning artists and cultural organisations to create work to be shown in The Space, and the BBC will be providing the related technology across the four digital media platforms: PC, mobile, tablet and connected TV. The BBC will mentor successful applicants – particularly smaller organisations – through the creative process, with training and guidance where appropriate.
