Sir Roy Strong, Matthew Bourne, Tamara Rojo and Colin Callender are amongst those to receive honours in 2016.

The former Director of the National Portrait Gallery and London’s Victoria and Albert Museum Sir Roy Strong has been made a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour in this year’s New Year Honours. The Order, which consists of the sovereign and just 65 members, recognises services of national importance. Strong joins other arts figures who have received the honour including Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Sir Nicholas Serota, David Hockney and Dame Judi Dench.

Dance figures were well represented in the Honours list, with choreographer Matthew Bourne receiving a knighthood, and Artistic Director of the English National Ballet Tamara Rojo and Founder and Artistic Director of the National Youth Ballet of Great Britain Jill Tookey receiving CBEs. Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon received an OBE.

For his work promoting British film, theatre and television in international markets, Colin Callender has been knighted. Other theatre figures to be honoured include playwright Peter Morgan, who received a CBE, and Chief Executive of Stage Directors UK Piers Haggard, who received an OBE.

The Chair and CEO of Universal Music David Joseph received a CBE for services to the UK music industry. Music figures to receive OBEs include Chief Executive of Drake Music Scotland Jane Sanderson, Vice-Chair of PRS For Music Foundation’s board of directors Paulette Long, and Leslie East, former Chief Executive of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Those receiving OBEs for their work in the visual arts include Deputy Director of the National Portrait Gallery Pim Baxter; Founder of The Art Room Juliana Beattie; the former Chief Executive of Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art Godfrey Worsdale; and Gerard McQuillan, who worked on Arts Council England’s Acceptance in Lieu scheme.

Arts figures to receive MBEs include Head of Service for Greater Manchester Music Hub Carolyn Baxendale; Head of Costume Workrooms at the Royal Opera House Maralyn Barton-Kronman; Artistic Director of Greenwich and Docklands International Festival Bradley Hemmings; founder of Situations Claire Doherty; Chief Executive of Diverse City Claire Hodgson; founders of Music Theatre Wales Michael McCarthy and Michael Rafferty; and Chief Executive of Musical Keys Sallie Eastick.
