Meetings with artists, digital optimisation and Mr Tibbs the dog – Amanda Fawcett shares a week in the life of an Assistant Producer. Amanda FawcettClick / swipe to begin MondayI started working for MAYK a year ago and, when I walked into the office, Mr Tibbs was one of the first things I saw. I instantly knew this was the right place for me. He lounges around while we all work away to make sure performances get made, shows get seen and Mayfest gets programmed. I get to work across all areas of the company. It’s never dull and it’s always responsive. Amongst other tasks I’ll be doing some availability checking with the team behind Still House’s ‘Of Riders and Running Horses’. TuesdayI spend the majority of my working week in the office. Assembled here are our Administrative Producer Steph, Marketing Intern Tim and Freelance Producer and Mayfest Radio Producer Luke. A mixture of the core team and freelancers work from the office, meaning that our conversations are always varied and there are plenty of experienced brains to pick. On a Tuesday morning our Co-directors Matthew and Kate lead the weekly MAYK team meeting, to check on ongoing projects and chat through the week’s tasks. WednesdayI went off to Bath today to attend a monthly digital optimisation training session, set up by Destination Bristol at The Natural Theatre. This week we were learning and sharing best practice around social media and email communications (as the proud creator of #NPOMG, I love me some social media). Outside of Mayfest, I keep the social media accounts ticking over and create content, as well as updating the website and drafting our newsletter. ThursdayArtist Sara Zaltash popped into the office today to discuss her upcoming project ‘Ah-Be’, which will involve her walking from the UK to Tehran. As executive producers, our Co-directors are responsible for overseeing the project. We’re in the early planning stages and wading through research tasks. Our diary is often populated with plenty of meetings with artists, which is something I love being a part of. (Note the Canadian biscuits on the desk – courtesy of Matthew.) FridayThis afternoon I got to see Rachael Young’s OUT at the Wardrobe Theatre. I also started work on action points from my bi-annual appraisal earlier in the week. I’ve been lucky enough to work on a variety of projects, including Mayfest, the NT River Stage take over and international tours. The appraisal gave me a chance to reflect: I’ve done and learnt a hell of a lot along the way and there’s so much more to learn and look forward to.
