Leader BENEDICT HOLLAND has retired after 17 years at the helm of the East Midlands professional orchestra. Violinist SOPHIE ROSA has picked up the role as Holland pursues other opportunities
Former Director of Newport’s Quay Arts MICK SMITH joins the Dorset-based charity, filling the post left by CURTIS FULCHER. Smith has experience in business development and management, as well as a jazz piano diploma and registration as a psychiatric nurse.
JENNY HOWARD-COOMBES, who is also Joint CEO of Freedom Festival Arts Trust, will take up a new post at the National Trust for Scotland in the autumn. The trust’s first employee in 2012, she was key to the growth of the festival, which is now Hull’s largest annual cultural event.
Dancer and Akram Khan Company Producer FAROOQ CHAUDHRY will be Artist Trustee at Tate for the next four years. TIM DAVIE, Chief Executive of BBC Studios, has been reappointed to the board.
NICK THOMPSON joins the company as it embarks on a fundraising campaign to open its first permanent site. Artistic Director PAUL STACEY said Thompson’s “producing acumen, organisational leadership and artistic integrity will ensure that Reading Rep continues to thrive as we move into our new home and cement a national reputation for our work”.

National Museums Scotland is bidding farewell to GORDON RINTOUL after 18 years as its Director. The former Chief Executive of the Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust recently oversaw the implementation of NMS’ £80m masterplan, which was completed this year. The organisation is looking for a successor to start before Rintoul's departure in Spring 2020.
RAVI GURUMURTHY has been appointed Chief Executive of innovation foundation Nesta. He will leave his current role as Chief Innovation Officer at the International Rescue Committee later this year, replacing GEOFF MULGAN, who has held the role since 2011.
Dancefest has chosen KITTY ROSS to fill a new role as Executive Producer. Ross, who has more than 15 years’ experience in the cultural sector, will be charged with forging new relationships with stakeholders. Her previous roles include Managing Director at Pentabus Rural Theatre Company, Event Director for the Diamond Jubilee Festival in Battersea Park and Programme Director for the Mayor’s Thames Festival on London’s South Bank....
TONY REEKIE is to join Catherine Wheels Theatre Company as its Executive Director and Joint CEO, starting in 30 September. He was previously CEO of Imaginate, Scotland’s national development organisation for children’s theatre and dance.
PETER KELLNER will leave the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) when his term comes to an end in November. The former President of pollster YouGov said that the NCVO’s role was “more vital than ever as the challenges facing civil society and the communities we serve grow day by day”.
