Sheffield Theatres has been recognised as a leading light in regional theatre, with the Crucible Theatre being awarded the Barclays TMA award for Theatre of the Year.
The award is given for inspiration and excellence in performance, combined with access and education initiatives, audience development and relationships with local communities. Over 700 productions throughout the country were seen in the course of the judging, and awards were made in 15 categories. Included among the winners were The Arts Theatre, Cambridge which won the Barclays Award for Most Welcoming Theatre, a category which acknowledges a venue?s overall approach to the public. Abi Morgan?s acclaimed play Splendour attracted two awards, one for Best New Play and one for its director, Vicky Featherstone as Best Director; and Best Touring Production was voted as the Far Side of the Moon written, directed and performed by Robert Lepage.
