A new arts building in Plymouth has been honoured with three architectural awards. TR2, which is part of Theatre Royal Plymouth and was designed by Ian Ritchie Architects, is a new facility where large-scale productions can be built and rehearsed under one roof.

The £8.2m Production and Education Centre was built on reclaimed land as part of the regeneration project for the Cattedown area in Plymouth. It is home to some of the UK?s leading theatre makers and provides space for workshops and rehearsals for a number of production companies, as well as local schools and community groups. TR2 has been presented with the ?Building of the Year? award, the ?Design Excellence? award from the American Institute of Architects, and a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award for the South West region. It will now go forward to the competition for the RIBA national awards, including the overall RIBA Stirling Prize. Other contenders for the awards include BALTIC: centre for contemporary art, Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House, Manchester City Art Gallery, Urbis, Sheffield Millennium Galleries and Winter Garden, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the Hampstead Theatre and Laban.
