Background
ArtsProfessional was created in April 2001 to provide a forum for arts professionals to share good practice and to keep in touch with the news, views and current issues in arts management and practice.
The magazine has since become the UK’s leading trade journal for arts managers and administrators, and has expanded its activities to include two websites (www.artsprofessional.co.uk and www.artsjobfinder.co.uk), regular podcasts on a range of themes, and a free weekly email news bulletin (APe-mail) which publishes highlights from the arts news stories which have recently been covered in the national broadsheet press.
ArtsProfessional neither receives nor applies for any public subsidy, as it is felt that this would compromise the independence of its editorial . It is run by a small company (Arts Intelligence Limited), whose financial survival is entirely dependent on advertising and subscription revenues. In October 2003, the company was one of only three national finalists in a national Small Business of the Year Award and was complimented by the judges for managing to survive “in a notoriously cash-strapped sector”.
Since April 2001, over 1.10 million copies of ArtsProfessional have been printed and distributed to subscribers across the UK and around the world. Since it was launched in February 2002, 1.08 million copies of APe-mail have been sent to more than 9,500 self-registered subscribers. The ArtsProfessional website at www.artsprofessional.co.uk receives more than half a million unique visits a year. (Statistics calculated in October 2007).
